Where do rubies come from?
At Dean’s, ruby jewelry from our NEW LoveFire Collection features rubies and sapphires from Greeland.
Fall in love with the oldest gems on earth, straight from the snow-covered, icy, and mountainous island! The jewelry in our LoveFire collection features Greenland rubies and sapphires that were only officially recorded in the 1960's. But, local inhabitants in Greenland have known about the gem deposit for generations, and called the region Aappaluttoq, {Ah-puh-lu-tok} meaning RED in Greenlandic.
Why we do love Greenland Rubies?
They were unearthed at a pristine site in the southwest of Greenland and are believed to be the oldest on earth, at nearly 3 billion years old. Most importantly, these icy gems are mined adhering to Responsible Environmental Laws, Social Best Business Practices, and Human Rights Standards.
Greenland Ruby is committed to preserving the pristine location of their mine, which is located in a drained waterway amidst an icy mountainous landscape and surrounded by majestic fjords. Upon completion of their work there, the drained aqueduct will be refilled, all equipment and buildings will be removed, and the site will be fully restored to its natural wilderness.
The sale of each LoveFire jewel contributes to the PinkPolarBear Foundation, dedicated to supporting International Polar Research in all disciplines. The foundation is especially concerned with the effects of climate change on the environment; stimulating education, understanding the needs, and supporting the inhabitants of Greenland, both animal and human, who are affected by accompanying cultural changes.
Gems are tracked and traced from the mine in Greenland, through manufacturing into this stunning collection. Your LoveFire ruby jewelry comes with a Card of Authenticity approved by the Government of Greenland. There’s an entire world hidden within each gem!
We are excited to share these jewels with you!
