In our previous Blog Entry, Randy Fenoli discussed the 2011 and 2012 Trends in Bridal Gowns, bridal jewelry and accessories being observed during Bridal Fashion Week in NY. Emerging trends are inspired by a mixture of old Hollywood glamor, regal styles seen during the Royal Wedding and a new wave of black and tea length designs making a buzz at the 2011 Bridal Fashion Week in NY.

Daring hemlines, colors and fabrics are definitely amping up the fun factor in bridal fashion, if Bridal Fashion Week in NY was strong in its predictions. Collections by Theia Couture feature slinky movements, petal power, dramatic lace detail and daringly short sequined gowns. A fun and fundamentally artistic style, Theia gowns are designed in NY, under the creative direction of Don O’Neill.

Theia launched the label’s first collection in 2009 to impressive fashion critic acclaim. With a name meaning, ‘Greek Goddess’, the Theia Couture bridal collection seen at Bridal Fashion Week was definitely designed to envoke a belief in mythology.

The NYC Bridal Week jewelry and gown craze quickly brought me back to April 29th of this year, sitting up with a pen and notebook through the night to catch any and all possible wind of the Kate Middleton royal wedding jewelry, gown, make-up, hair and style of the soon to be Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge on her big day.

When blogging about the Royal Wedding, I was classically inspired and had never been so impressed with the charming classic glamour of any Bride on her Wedding Day.

“Catherine arrived on to the vibrant setting in a Cartier tiara, created in 1936 and originally purchased by The Duke of York (King George VI) for his Duchess (The Queen Mother) three weeks before he succeeded his brother as King. The significance of Kate Middleton wearing the Queen’s tiara on Friday is of great importance, symbolizing the emotional bond between the Queen and Princess Catherine.

Who would soon be referred to as Kate for the last time, Catherine’s hair was whimsically styled, half-up and half-down brunette locks of loose curls, holding a veil of ivory silk tulle and a trim of hand-embroidered flowers. The Bride wore an Alexander McQueen wedding gown designed by the British brand’s creative director, Sarah Burton.

One element of this historic wedding that the media outlets are buzzing over wildly is the jewelry worn by Kate Middleton on her and William’s Big Day. Rave reviews from fashion critics include the acknowledgement that the commoner exhibited stylish Royalty by blending together various time periods of jewelry in perfection.

The pave-set acorn diamond centered earrings worn by Kate Middleton were a Wedding Gift for the new Bride from parents Carole and Michael Middleton. The Robinson Pelham designed pear-shaped earrings were inspired by her family’s new coat of arms, and one of the pieces that are receiving press praises.”

As enamored as the world, including myself, was taken with Kate Middleton on that beautiful day in Spring 2011, the desperate attempts at continuing to mirror the bridal fashion seen on those who were part of the Royal Wedding have finally ceased. While the sophisticated style of Catherine Middleton continues to evolve, as does the world of bridal fashion!

Bridal Fashion Week in NY held some fashion surprises, seen in the unique and much-talked about since black gowns of the Vera Wang collection. An increased danger in shorter hemlines, the delicate decoration of sequins, playful color palettes and wedding dresses made for mobility with capped or sleeveless gowns preface a fun and exciting bridal fashion for Fall 2011 and into 2012.

As Bridal Fashion Week draws to a close in New York, designers and insiders are making it clear that the industry has become less captivated by the “Middleton effect.”
